I found these pictures on the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Flickr page and they show the wonderful costumes from the exhibit on American Women. I was especially drawn to the Gibson Girl outfits from the late 1890's to the early 1900's. My favorite was a swimming costume that you can kind of see in the second picture. It was a black wool knee length dress with white nautical trim and an anchor on the front. She wore it with black tights of course. They were probably really hot on the beach in wool dresses, but damn they looked cute.

Favorites From The American Woman Exhibit
