Favorites From The American Woman Exhibit

I found these pictures on the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Flickr page and they show the wonderful costumes from the exhibit on American Women. I was especially drawn to the Gibson Girl outfits from the late 1890's to the early 1900's. My favorite was a swimming costume that you can kind of see in the second picture. It was a black wool knee length dress with white nautical trim and an anchor on the front. She wore it with black tights of course. They were probably really hot on the beach in wool dresses, but damn they looked cute.

East Side, West Side, All Around The Town...

A quick trip to NYC with my mom and daughter took us all over Central Park and to the Metropolitan Museum to see a wonderful exhibit on American Women. I wish I could have taken pictures of the clothes in the exhibit. It showed clothing from the 1890's to the 1940's and my favorite period of the Gibson Girl.

Under A Shady Tree

I love how this little tree canopies over the walkway in my parents' back yard.

Birthday Party!

My parents had a party for my daughter's birthday with her sister and cousins. Everybody had a great time!

Piano Recitals and First Communions

Last Saturday and Sunday were pretty busy for us. On Saturday my daughter had her first piano recital and on Sunday we headed up to Baltimore for the First Communion of the son of my friend. I love Baltimore and will jump at any chance to go there. It has a real city feeling with alleyways and big old buildings. The weather was cool and sunny all weekend.

Eight Years Old

My first born daughter is eight years old today. I have seen her change from a tiny little funny baby to a beautiful girl and it has happened so fast. Happy Birthday, I love you!

Billie

I named my blog after my grandmother Billie. She had a strength that was only matched by her beauty and lived a long and courageous life. She will always be a heroine to me because she brought my father into the world; the most compassionate and generous person I have ever met.

Nautical Dress

This is a cute vintage nautical print dress that will be going into my shop soon. It appears to have been handmade and it has two little bows on the front that are hard to see. We had fun taking pictures of it this weekend.

Mother's Day

Spent a beautiful and very windy Mother's Day on the Chesapeake with the family. The kids played and we all ate some delicious meals. The peonies and roses had just bloomed and smelled amazing.
